Warning Signs
Through the media of mono printing I thoroughly express the order found within the chaos. Repetition, pattern, and visual texture are prevalent in my work to represent the tactile quality of the materials. Through every day life, we go through the motions and routines. Sometimes our plans and routines get misconstrued and we must learn how to cope with the unexpected. Sometimes the unexpected is offsetting, however it can quickly be a new outlook on a situation. The unexpected within my work is what brings the chaos to light in my work. The layers are the order. I want to viewer to walk up to the work and see the layers then interpret them as order but when they look from afar it looks like a jumbled mess.
The incorporation of the warning signs has to do with the constant roadblocks we come face to face with in our daily lives. They are meant to keep us safe or keep us from something that we shouldn’t be around. To block us, to stop us, to warn us, the signs in my work represent the many roadblocks I endure day to day.
“Warning Signs” is a compilation of mono print works that primarily use screen print with other types of 2D media.
